Problem Solving as a Nomad
Nomad Profile
A solo traveler like me, I met Niklas on the Nomad Train through Central Asia. We both like to play games, so I whipped out a deck of cards and started hunting around for a pen & paper to keep score. Nik instantly said, “I have an app for that!”
Nik did indeed have an app that enabled us to keep score on our phones. I didn’t realize at the time that he had actually created the app—along with 16 others. You can download all of Nik’s apps, including score-keeping, meditation tracking, speed-reading, flash card making, plus many others, from the Apple store and Google Play. Check ‘em out!

2 Questions
As a developer, you’ve created several apps that you manage from the road. Do you think your tech background is an advantage as a nomad?
Yes, I think it’s an advantage. Being a developer you always think logically and solve problems. The same applies when you’re on the road. Things go wrong. Each day is full of riddles that I love to solve. Starting with how to get from A to B, where to get food, which play to stay, etc.
The more adventurous you become, for instance with hitchhiking, going to less travelled countries like Pakistan, or taking the local buses where no one speaks your language, the more challenges you will face and the more you can grow.
How do you balance your physical and mental health while traveling?
This is extremely important. Typically you don’t have any routines while you’re traveling. On average, I change places every 3-4 days. Therefore every day - no matter what - I meditate and either stretch or do sports (body weight only). To do this, I have a very thin and small yoga mat with me. It helps me to center myself and keep myself grounded.
