2 Questions
1) Why did you decide to world school your kids?
I went to the international school in Manila, Philippines with global classmates which taught me to transcend yet celebrate our cultural, religious, and national differences. The school also viewed all travel as educational and taught us that we are all a part of something bigger beyond ourselves — that we are truly global citizens.
Beyond today’s formal education (which I find boring), I also want my children to strengthen their lifelong learning muscles — to have a desire for how to learn, what to learn, and how to be critical thinkers and creators. Worldschooling offers all of that and more!
2) What is the biggest challenge (and benefit!) of living as a nomadic family? The biggest challenge is figuring out how to be with each other 24/7. It’s a lot of fun, but also, it’s a LOT. Each of us is learning how to ask for space and honor our own and each other’s solo time.
One of the biggest benefits is we get to really know each other — a whole new level of intimacy! And it is the adventure of a lifetime, filled with sights, culture, food, and old & new friends! 🦋
Have you ever thought about world-schooling your kids? What do you think would be the biggest benefit or drawback? How do you think living abroad would change your relationships with your kids?
