Loved reading this, Erin. As a coffee lover I'm always curious to learn about different rituals and ways people celebrate this brew and this was certainly fascinating. The photos are beautiful too and that coffee looks so smooth and strong! Not sure I could handle 3 cups in one sitting though! 😄

Thanks, Ibtissam! The cups are small, only the size of Chinese tea cups - I'm sure you can handle all 3! ♥️☕

I enjoyed this piece. It is so informative to be in a place where people are deeply seated in their traditions.

Thanks, Brad! I'm happy you enjoyed it. 😃 And yes, the cultures and traditions of North Africa, in particular, are steadfast -- baked into each individual's tribal, religious, and ethnic identity.

Lovely piece Erin. What an awesome place and you make it and the people there come alive. And that bunna smell...wow...must be amazing...

Thank you, JJ. Yes! I'm having my morning coffee now and remembering the intensity of it all. ☕

The idea of the aromas of roasting something and then brewing from it wafts through the air in reading this, immediately triggering the Pavlovian need for something warm to brew of one’s own—even if it be to toast some rice to add to a pot of tea to sip alongside the next Substack installment! ♨️

Thanks, LaMonica! I've never thought to toast rice for the aroma, but like this idea (especially as most incense is too strong for me). Will give it a try!

I have some brown rice now -- will get some tea leaves tomorrow and report back! 🍵 Thanks for sharing the recipe, LaMonica!
