
I’m hanging out in North Cyprus this month and last Saturday my new friend Açelya and I went out for coffee. Sitting poolside, we sipped our tiny cups of thick Turkish coffee.
As soon as Açelya finished, she flipped her cup upside down on the saucer. I, of course, did the same. She then picked up my cup and snapped a few photos of the inside and rim of the cup, as well as the saucer, and sent them to an app to divine my fortune.
Known as tasseography, a fortune teller (or an app like Faladdin or even ChatGPT) interprets the shape of the coffee grounds.
