Returning Home as a Nomad
Nomad Profile
I met Olie & Mei during a walking tour of Baku, Azerbaijan. They were just on their way to Central Asia, and I was just returning—so we had a ton to talk about!
I was also interested in their nomad journey. As full-time nomads, they had been on the road for the past several years and were on the last stretch before heading home for the holidays with their family. They had originally planned to go back to work, but are now considering traveling again with a new focus on sustainability.

What do you like best about the nomadic life? Adventure
2 Questions
1) You both have taken a year off from your jobs to travel. How did you arrange this? Was there any pushback from your companies?
We actually didn’t consult our employers, as we were keen on moving countries (Singapore back to Australia), so it didn’t make sense to ask for a career break, so instead we took the resignation route
2) What did you both hope to achieve with your time traveling? Did you achieve it?
Initially, it was to tick off some places on our bucket list, as work had been pretty hectic over the past few years, so our objective was more to have a break.
However, we are now setting some ‘learning’ goals to establish a foundation for a possible career change. We also want to take this opportunity (over the next 12 months) to explore volunteer projects in the areas of Sustainability and Financial Literacy that we could get involved in. 🦋
