Vasavi and I met on the Trans-Siberian train leaving from Beijing, traversing Mongolia’s Gobi Desert, destination Moscow. I still remember her travel journal from that trip. It was full of her beautiful drawings. And now she is sharing her art as the author of two books: Kokan and Zoya and Seville Orange, part of Ropana Stories.

2 Questions
How do you choose your next destination? Intuitively. I’m often inspired by the many nationalities I teach and by the visual culture I encounter. These interactions prompt my curiosity and inspire me to discover more.
What considerations did you think weren’t important (but were)? Time, which is often underestimated. Serendipitous experiences and unexpected encounters happen when we steer away from rigidly planning our experiences. Time is also fleeting, so it’s imperative to make the most of every single second. 🦋
What inspires your travels? Do you like to follow a set itinerary? What do you think is the most underestimated aspect of travel?
